1-Week Meisner Workshop Description:
This workshop is a unique opportunity for actors, directors, and teachers to experience the Meisner Technique as it was created and developed by Sanford Meisner at The Neighborhood Playhouse in NYC Where Sanford Meisner taught for over 50 years . Course work is for Actors and Directors of all levels of experience.
Workshop participants will be guided through core exercises including: improvisation, repetition, and independent activity culminating in working with text. This American acting technique is designed to improve the actor’s concentration and strengthen the actor’s instrument to be both responsive and expressive within the imaginary circumstances. The Meisner technique develops a more specific, skilled, and authentic actor with an organic, spontaneous, and disciplined instrument.

Pamela Moller Kareman has taught Meisner Technique for over twenty years throughout New York City, and in 2012 she was named executive director of New York's prestigious 90-year-old professional acting conservatory, The Neighbourhood Playhouse School of The Theater. The Neighborhood Playhouse is known as the home of the Meisner Technique. Currently Ms. Moller Kareman serves on the board of directors of Theater 808, The Neighborhood Playhouse and is a member of the drama department advisory board at LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts (the 'Fame school') here in NYC. Ms. Moller Kareman has served on the Commission on Accreditation for the National Association of Schools of Theatre. She is a proud member of the professional director's union, SDC and a graduate of The Neighborhood Playhouse where she studied with Sanford Meisner. Along with actress Mary Steenburgen, she formed the comedy group Cracked Tokens which was the resident company of The Manhattan Theater Club's Cabaret for two seasons. In the late 1980's she had the honor of becoming the artistic director of New York's Acorn Productions, a theater company formed by fellow actors Brooke Palance and Michael Wilding. The New York Times, in writing about Acorn's early days said, "they deserve a warm welcome!" During her tenure with Acorn she produced numerous shows in New York, including an acclaimed revival of JP Miller's The Fox. Ms. Moller Kareman’s Off-Broadway directing credits include: Ingmar Bergman's Nora (The Arclight); S.N. Behrman's Biography (The Mint Theatre) starring Broadway's Tracy Shayne; the award-winning Brownsville Bred (59E59) written and performed by Elaine Del Valle; & Arthur Miller's The Crucible (The Arclight). Last season, Ms. Moller Kareman’s production of Helen Edmundson’s The Clearing played to sold-out houses at 59E59.
