At the suggestion of fellow alumna Joanne Woodward, Allison Janney decided to take on a course of study at The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre. After graduating from the Playhouse, Ms. Janney went on to many major roles in theatre, film and television. She gave memorable movie performances in Drop Dead Gorgeous, 10 Things I Hate About You, American Beauty and The Hours. Among her stage work, Ms. Janney has played in a revival of Arthur Miller’s A View From the Bridge on Broadway which earned her a Tony Award nomination, and a Drama League Award for outstanding artist. She played in Noel Coward’s Present Laughter which earned her the Outer Critics Circle Award and an Actors’ Equity award. But Ms. Janney is perhaps best known for her role as C.J. Cregg on the acclaimed TV series The West Wing written by Aaron Sorkin. Her impressive work during the show’s seven seasons earned her four Emmy and two SAG Awards.
